WHAT WE ARE DOING

 

A Sociedade Filarmónica União Praiense foi fundada em 1889.

Com 133 anos, esta instituição sempre sobreviveu da solidariedade e boa vontade da sua comunidade com cerca de 4 mil habitantes.

The Sociedade Filarmónica União Praiense was founded in 1889.

At 133 years old, this institution has always survived on the solidarity and goodwill of its community of around 4,000 inhabitants.

 

Prosseguimos, desde 1889, o objetivo de desenvolver o gosto pela música e dinamizar culturalmente as tradições musicais desta pequena ilha Graciosa do arquipélago dos Açores em Portugal. Temos 35 músicos e uma escola de música com cerca de 20 crianças em formação.

Esta instituição nunca interrompeu a sua atividade e passou também a assumir uma função recreativa, realizando Festas e Bailes de Carnaval, assim como formações musicais.

Since 1889, we have pursued the objective of developing a taste for music while culturally dynamizing the musical traditions of Graciosa, a small island in the Azores archipelago belonging to Portugal. We have 35 musicians and a music school with around 20 children in training.
This institution never interrupted its activity and also began to take on a recreational function, holding Carnival Parties and Dances, in addition to providing musical formation.

 

O aprumo do fardamento é tão relevante quanto a componente instrumental de qualquer filarmónica. E sabendo que a nossa farda atual foi adquirida em finais da década de 90, contando com mais de 20 anos de utilização, apresentando grandes traços de desgaste, urge proceder à sua renovação.

The uniform is as relevant as the instrumental component of any philharmonic band. Knowing that our current uniform was acquired in the late 90's, and having more than 20 years of use, it's showing its age along with great signs of wear. The is no doubt that it is urgent need of replacement.

 

 

Esta instituição conseguia receitas essencialmente pela participação da banda filarmónica em festas de cariz lúdico, mas a chegada da pandemia tornou este nosso sonho impossível de se realizar, tendo cancelando inúmeros eventos e oportunidades de angariarmos dinheiro para este fim.

This institution obtained revenue, essentially, through the participation of the philharmonic band, through tfundraising parties and dinner-dances , but the arrival of the pandemic made this dream of ours impossible due to the fact that we had to cancel numerous scheduled events and opportunities to raise funds specifically for this purpose.

 

 

Reconhecendo a importância que a música tem para esta ilha e o enorme carinho e respeito que a Direção tem pelos seus músicos e todo o trabalho feito até aqui, infelizmente não temos meios suficientes para renovar a farda e comprar alguns instrumentos necessários.

Recognizing the importance that music has for this island and the enormous affection and respect that the Board has for its musicians and all the work done so far, unfortunately we do not have enough means to renew our uniforms and buy some much needed instruments.

WHERE THIS MONEY GOES

 

Esta ajuda irá essencialmente para a renovação da farda dos nossos 34 músicos e para a compra de dois instrumentos para permitir a integração dos nossos alunos na banda filarmónica.

This aid will go directly towards the purchase of new uniforms for our 34 musicians and in the acquisition of two new instruments that will help us to include our students in the philharmonic band.
