Help Me Build My Classroom

I'm so excited that after five years of permanent substitute teaching, I have been hired as a full-time 3rd grade teacher at the Atkinson Elementary School in North Andover. My dream of finally having my own third grade class is now becomming a reality. As a new teacher, just starting out, I am looking forward to setting up my classroom and making it a cheerful, inviting, enriching environment. The only thing holding me back....is money. Unfortunately, our district is on a tight budget, so there is little, (and I mean VERY little) allocated for classroom supplies. This makes it quite challenging for a new teacher to build a classroom. In my school, over 50% of the student population qualifies for subsidized Iunch. These are the students who may not be able to afford even basic school supplies. I want my students to be at an advantage when it comes to learning, and I look to you to help me make this possible.
I have so many great ideas that I've that I'd love to put into action. For example, during Reading Workshop, I'd love to offer students the opportunity to listen to text on affordable MP3 players with headphones, as they follow along in their own books. I want to provide my third graders with lots of choices and opportunities to find "just-right" books in my new classroom library. I've added to my wishlist sturdy book bins to house and organize this library. I'm eager to get my hands on a Judy Clock to help me teach students how to tell time. There are also lots great math manipulatives out there to give kiddos hands-on experience with the curiculum. The furniture I've selected meets classroom standards and will last for many years to come. As you can see from my Wish List below, I'm starting from the ground up.
