American Legion Post 160 has been an active member of the Smyrna, GA community for 75 years. The American Legion is a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, and continued devotion to service members and veterans.
The project includes installing erosion control, planting flower beds, shrubs and ground cover. In addition, we will be cleaning the entryway cannons, which are covered in sap and dirt. The facility is used as a gathering place and to host events for veterans. Also, both boy and girl scout troops are based there. They also rent out their community hall for weddings and parties to help fund veterans activities.
By improving the grounds, we will protect the surrounding area from erosion, and increase the attractiveness of the post, which in turn should increase rental income to support veterans’ needs.
The funds raised will be used for the materials needed to complete the work. If there are any additional proceeds from the fundraising that aren’t required for the project, the funds will be donated to Post 160.
A special thank you to MNI Direct and Vinings Landscape for helping with pricing and delivery of the needed materials.
