Aid to Licensed Physician Jamal Salha: A Path to Safety

My name is Christina and I am 26 years old currently residing in Tallahassee, Florida. In the midst of watching the horrors of the war on Gaza unfold, I am asking for your kind donations of any amount that will go directly to Jamal Salha. Since October 7, 2023, Jamal has performed surgeries and provided medical care for an overwhelming number of patients within the neurosurgery and emergency departments of both Al Shifa Medical Complex and Aqsa Hospital. Under impossible conditions, he’s volunteered countless hours and documented his journey to share with the world what is happening from the ground level.

On his behalf as well as my own, I’d like to first communicate the urgency and necessity of your support, as conditions worsen daily for Jamal and so many in Gaza. He shared with me that he hesitated to ask for financial help but feels at this point he has no choice. Who is Jamal?

Jamal Salha is a 26 year old who dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon to help his people in Gaza. In the fall of 2022, JeMal completed medical school at the Islamic University of Gaza. Post-graduation, his plan was to continue working to save money to pay for the continuation of his residency studies outside of Gaza. In addition to his medical studies, Jamal greatly enjoys sharing time with his family and friends, committing time to prayer, going to the beach, and staying fit. That said, so many of Jamal plans and sense of stability were devastated at the beginning of the war.

How the war has the war directly impacted Jamal?

When talking to Jamal about his experiences, it is clear that he has suffered loss in the most horrendous of ways, including loss of loved ones, home, and career pathway.

Early into October 2023, Jamal and his family were forced to leave their home and became homeless. Following, in March 2024, Jamal greatly grieved the destruction of Al Amal Institute of Orphans, the only place in Gaza city that supplies a safe space for orphans, which also was a home to him. In addition to loss of home, he was separated from his mother in order to volunteer as a physician and has suffered the loss of several close friends who’ve been killed. With the recent total bombardment of Al Shifa Medical complex, where the residency program is offered, as well as the general disruption of economy in Gaza, Jamal has no way of saving money or continuing forward with his studies. Still, he has done his best throughout the last 180+ days to learn and perform surgeries.

It goes without saying that he is exhausted, with 32,000+ killed, majority women and children, and his homeland destroyed. This war, in his own words, has “destroyed our hospitals, home and hopes”. And in addition to the personal losses he has suffered, he also experiences the struggles that all people in Gaza are facing, including lack of access to safe shelter, food and water, clothing, and transportation.
