Aid The Cruz Family

September 20th of 2017 was a historic moment for the island of Puerto Rico when the most powerful hurricane that this generation had seen hit the island. The hurricane María, category 4, passed through the middle of Puerto Rico hitting the whole island with strong winds and heavy rain. I live in the town of Bayamón where with a small rain the power is gone. The hurricane left the whole island without power and water. The island was really devastated with many fallen trees, cables, destroyed houses, windows, etc... My house got a bit flooded, but luckily the damages were minor compared to other places that are completely flooded. The food and water in the streets are running low because everyone is in a strong necessity. The gasoline is being rationed and the lines to get it are at least 3 hours long, if you get any when you finish the line. There's a new law that we can't go outside after 6:00pm (until we are safe). Criminals are out there robbing and some have escaped the prisons in the island, many in the area of Bayamón where I live. It's a dangerous place out  in Puerto Rico. Most of the streets were blocked by fallen trees and buildings, but everyone is working extra hard to get thing back to normal. The electricity and water systems are estimated to take about 4-6 months to be working again. We are in a state of emergency and need all the help that we can get. In my case the money spending goes to having to buy food almost everyday because with no electricity we can't refrigerate food. At the moment, the most important items are water bottles, flashlights, batteries for flashlights or the radio which is the main communication source right now, candles, and medicines because we all have medical conditions at home. My name is Camille Cruz. My family was able to survive the hurricane, nevertheless, we are still fighting to survive the everyday life.
