Aid for Regina

Donation protected
About thirty years ago our family became acquainted with the Hatcher family, Elmer, Regina, and their sons as we all attended the same church and have been friends ever since.  In December of 2015 Regina was diagnosed with Colon Cancer.  Regina has her lower colon and 47 lymph nodes removed and then she was treated with chemotherapy which left her very sick and caused her to lose her hair.  Following the Colon surgery, more scans revealed that she had new cancerous tumors.  Over the course of the next six months she underwent another round of chemotherapy which again made her very ill.  This occurred over about tow years.  When the doctors found that the chemotherapy was not helping to stop the growth of the tumors, they started daily radiation therapy treatments which were administered for thirty days.  In late 2019 it was found that the masses in her abdomen had enlarged and one had grown around her aorta.  This made surgical removal of the tumor very dangerous due to the risk of nicking the aorta and possibly causing a catastrophic hemorrhage.  Doctors found some experimental chemo therapy medications as a "last resort" which she was unable to tolerate.

Due to the severity of the side effects, she has had several different medications tried without improvement.  Her last round of chemotherapy was stopped due to the severe side effects.  Regina now suffers from constant, severe pain.  Sadly, the treatments have been unsuccessful, her tumors are growing and there is no more that can be done for her medically so she is now in Hospice care.  The doctors are giving her up to six months to live.

Regina's family is understandably devastated by the failure of the medications and her current condition.

Because Regina and Elmer live in a small town, all of her care providers except her family physician and pharmacy for some medications are a thirty to sixty mile drive each way.  The treatments, evaluations (CT scans, MRI s, PET scans, etc.), and travel have made her care quite expensive as most is not covered by insurance or Medicare leaving Regina and Elmer with approximately $10,000 of debts to pay.  Our goal is to eliminate as much of the existing debt as possible and perhaps leave some funds for future expenses for this special lady.

Any amount that you can give will be appreciated.  If you are unable to give, please keep Regina, Elmer, and their family in your prayers.  Thank you and may God Bless You!
