Hi. My name is Ahmad Yosir Abdulmajid, and I am from Afghanistan. I live in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. I moved here with my family when I was 6 years old.
Since my childhood, I have been involved in community activities. For example, I volunteer at American Space Dushanbe. I was a very active volunteer and I was selected as Volunteer of the Year. Moreover, I conduct different clubs at American Space Dushanbe. For example, I conduct Public Discussion club, where people learn how to speak and write fluently in English.
I went to the Afghan School in Dushanbe when I was 7 years old. When I became 14 years old our school was destroyed. So I had no choice to apply for a Tajik school or an international school. A friend of mine told me that there is a scholarship available for me at Quality Schools International. I received the scholarship, and collected the remaining amount I needed for 2019-2020 and I attended QSI. It was a great year and a new experience. It was a bit challenging at first but I got used to the new school system and found new friends. I closed all my academic units and I finished the year with all As and Bs, I was a member of the student council at our school which helped organize events and parties. I also joined the cross country team and soccer team.
I could manage to cover the expenses last year thanks to my scholarship and the generosity of donors and QSI. I also received another scholarship this year from Quality Schools International. The tuition fee is $21,000. My scholarship covers $18,200, but I need $3,200 more. It is a big challenge for my parents to pay this enormous amount of money, because my father is a shopkeeper and my mother is a beauty salon worker. I appreciate people’s help and I would be so grateful and thankful to people who will give me a hand in my difficulties today, so in the future, I can give a hand to another person in need.
To add on to Ahmad's story, I want to introduce myself. My name is Delia Walker-Jones, and I have had the pleasure of working with Ahmad at American Space Dushanbe since 2018. He is a wonderful student and talented young man, and I am so proud of him for receiving this scholarship to QSI for a second year. QSI has generously increased the amount of the scholarship, bringing down his fundraising needs to less than half of last year's. We hope that with your support, Ahmad will be able to continue his education at QSI for a second year.
