Agriculture/Farm School Tours

Donation protected
Each year over 8,000 preschool through 3rd grade students visit Peacock Road Family Farm.  While they are at the farm they get to interact with the farm animals, participate in a class at the one room schoolhouse, visit the pioneer cabin to see how folks lived during the early 1900s.  They also make a stop at the pumpkin patch to pick out their very own pumpkin.

As school budgets get tighter we are hearing from teachers that it is harder for them to make their annual trek to the farm because families can not afford the cost of the tour and the bus.  We are setting up this gofundme campaign to provide funds to teachers who need to pay for transportation for the class to visit the farm.  Teachers have told us the cost ranges from $100 to $200, depending on the number of buses and distance traveled.

Most of the schools that visit the farm are from urban areas and the students have little to no exposure to farm life.  It is not unusual for us to hear students debate that chickens can't fly, see wide eyed wonderment when they realize exactly  where milk comes out of a cow, or have a child ask a teacher who put the apples in the tree.   It is hard for them to comprehend that people did not always have TVs or running water.  The lessons learned on the farm in a single visit are used throughout the school year in history lessons.

Please help us help our great teachers!
