Agaiev Family- Ukrainian Refugee Fund

Hello all,

Many of us donated to different humanitarian organizations at the beginning of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. It was plastered in the media and garnered much attention and support from U.S. citizens. A year later, the war in Ukraine is as prevalent as ever yet it is no longer the focus of media attention in the U.S. That does not mean our help is no longer needed. Welcome.US is an organization that helps refugees connect with sponsors. My mother, Jodi Perko, and I joined this organization to become a sponsor group in January of 2023, and we need your help.

We connected with the Agaiev family and are working to bring them to Springfield, IL as soon as possible. Tunzala is a nurse and pharmacist, and her husband Arzu owned two successful businesses in Ukraine, their son is 4 years old. They lived in eastern Ukraine, where the invasion began then fled to Kyiv and were there when the Kyiv attacks started. Because Arzu is a citizen of Azerbaijan, their family was not given weapons to protect themselves. They lost everything; their home, cars, businesses, and money were all gone. They then fled Ukraine and were placed in a refugee camp in Hamburg, Germany. Conditions in the camp are miserable, their son is losing weight because the food is so bad instead of growing as a 4-year-old should. Tunzala and Arzu are eager to move to the U.S. to begin a new life, find jobs, become members of this community, and give their little boy a chance at a healthy, happy life.

Our goal is to raise $9,000 to help them move to the U.S. We will support them financially until they find jobs and can support themselves without our help. This includes paying for plane tickets, finding them housing and furnishings, covering legal expenses, food, medical needs, etc.
