Seth's Journey

In December 2013, a few day after Christmas, I received the worst news any parent could face. It became a reality for our family as we learned that our sweet Seth had childhood cancer.
Seth (a very active 4 year old at the time) had suddenly became very sick. Many sleepless nights, complaints of leg pain, sudden shortness of breath, temperature & lethargy. I took him to several doctors, some here local in Tompkinsville, we had also been to Kosairs Children’s Hospital in Louisville KY. Seth was sent home where he was receiving breathing treatments routinely & emergency inhalers for his shortness of air. He was being treated for bronchitis & asthma.
A few days had passed and we saw no improvement in Seth’s condition. Things took a turn for the worst. On December, 29th his fever spiked to 102.9, with episodes of nausea and vomiting. I took him to our local hospital where he tested positive for Type A Flu, they had obtained lab work at that time also. Waiting anxiously in the ER for his lab work to come back I had a feeling something bad was wrong. It was that very moment that changed our lives drastically. The doctor came in to tell us that his labs were critical & they were rushing him to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville TN. Not quite understanding what was going on at the time, the doctor tried explaining his abnormal blood counts to us, but I had a million things running through my head at that very moment. I was just hopeful for answers & eager to find out what was bothering my precious baby boy.
It was December 31,2013 when Seth was diagnosed with Acute B Lymphocytic Leukemia. After numerous tests, biopsy & labwork they had discovered that the cancer had spread to 85% of his bone marrow, including his spinal cord. The following day he received his first round of chemotherapy.
For the past 6 months Seth has been receiving chemotherapy treatments at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. He is admitted in the hospital for 4 days every week for treatments. Seth will be taking chemo for the next 3 ½ years. He has a younger brother, Mason who enjoys being with Seth during his hospitalizations. A nightly rate for a Hospital Hospitality House is $25.00. I’ve had to leave my job to provide full time care for my sweet Seth & I’m forced to leave my other son with family & friends to care for him during Seth’s hospitalizations due to financial hardship.
I’ve opened up this fund in hopes to alleviate the financial strain & stress that this has taken on us. Many people have reached out to help my family and continue to ask… “What can we do to help?” This is your opportunity. Any donation is a blessing to my family. No amount is too small. Most of all I ask that you lift Seth in your prayers and pray with us for complete healing. He is such a strong fighter & has been very brave throughout this journey.
