African Rural Volunteers - Book Drive

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Evans Aguiyi, For more than a decade, I’ve had a dream of bringing the magic of reading to impoverished West African children. That’s why I founded African Rural Volunteers (ARV) also known as CYSD (center for Youth in sustainable Development) For the past few years, we’ve donated thousands of books to those who have no access to them . Through these book donations and by stocking school libraries, ARV continues to reach thousands of Nigerian children, some of whom live in very remote locations. Nothing says more than the joy and excitement children express when they get their very own book, and it may surprise you just how much some kids want that.

Just one example is Sade, an eleven-year-old Yoruba girl we met in Nigeria during our travels to different villages. Sade was without a home after her family abandoned her for unclear reasons. She had no financial means whatsoever, but rather than money, what she wanted most was a book of her own. ARV provided her not only that, but a solar lamp to read at night, which she loves to do. Amidst of all the tragic circumstances of her young life, Sade looked to reading for solace. Being able read is a great empowerment for a youngster like Sade.

Book cycle; a UK-based, volunteer-run organization, ships the books to
West Africa, but ARV bears all the costs thereafter, including port clearance and the sorting, transporting, and distribution of the books. Now, we have a chance to receive books on a quarterly basis to donate to even more children in our target villages, but we will lose this opportunity if we don’t fulfill it financially. We run entirely on donations, and yours, no

matter how small, can help us in the following ways:

1. Acquiring shelf space for our book-storage bank: We have more than 40,000 books awaiting distribution to kids in five selected rural communities in Nigeria.
2. A minivan for the team to reach the villages. Many rural roads are difficult to maneuver and require a robust vehicle to get through.
3. Funds to cover heavy customs duties imposed at Nigerian ports when the books arrive from the UK.
4. Support for our amazing, passionate volunteers.

Partner with ARV to continue this mission of a lifetime. Your kind support for this cause goes a long way to ensure we provide as many needy West African kids as possible with quality books. We’re grateful for any donation, no matter how small.
