AFJROTC 75th Anniv. of D-Day Trip

Donativo protegido

UPDATE - Because this is such a fantastic opportunity and quite literally a ONCE IN A LIFETIME experience, the Council Bluffs AFJROTC leaders have decided to extend the opportunity to a number of additional Cadets. The Cadets that have earned a position at specific levels of Staff within the group have been selected to join the original (4) selected Cadets. Of course, with the additional participants, comes additional cost. We are now looking at an approximate fundraising goal of $48,500.  We are at approximately $15,000, so we have a really great start, but a ways to go by early 2019. EVERY contribution counts so PLEASE take a moment to consider contributing to this incredible oppotunity and playing a part in keeping the education and honor of D-Day and those who gave their lives.

The National D-day 75 Years Committee has selected our area JROTC programs to participate in the 2019 D-Day Memorial Parade.
Forty (40) Heartland cadets (Including 4 Cadets from the Abraham Lincoln / Thomas Jefferson AFJROTC in Council Bluffs, IA) and select instructors were chosen to represent the State of Nebraska and Iowa and will have the opportunity to tour historic battlefields and experience history firsthand. In order to take part in this educational opportunity, the cadets need to raise $3,400 each to cover transportation, meals, lodging and tour fees.

D-Day - June 6, 2019 will mark the 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings and the Liberation of Europe.  The French Village of Sainte-Mere-Eglise will host the D-Day 75th Anniversary Parade and the American Musical Salute to Liberation.  The American Cemetery at Omaha Beach will host the opening ceremony. Bellevue, Council Bluffs, Millard and Omaha Air Force and Army JROTC cadets will learn of the war that forever changed the world.  A feature performance will be scheduled in Paris to help celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the dedication of the Eiffel Tower.

This event has been recognized by numerous veterans associations, community organizations, and military and government officials and will provide participants and spectators an opportunity to salute those men and women who have and continue to sacrifice for our nation.  Official partners of the D-Day Memorial Parade include: History Channel, Boeing, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Greatest Generation Foundation.
