SAVE MIDGE’S LIFE!

Donation protected
The sweetest puppy ever came to us last Tuesday as a rescue.
Her name is Midge.
She smells like sweet flowers, sleeps cheek to cheek with our children, chills so hard, plays with tremendous cuteness while being so gentle, and has been an ease with potty training. She’s terribly smart and a perfect match for our family. Our older dog, an amputee Red Heeler named Mercury, has taken her new sister Midge in as an instant companion.

Bringing this rescue pup into our home has been an incredible gift to our family. To say that we’re in love with Midge would be an understatement. It doesn’t seem possible to bond so deeply or quickly within a week but we can’t imagine our family without Midge- the little sister, the missing piece. She’s our cuddle bug and baby doll.

When we brought Midge home last week, we noticed she would vomit if we gave her dry food. She had no issues keeping wet food down though. She also had weeping eyes, a slight fever and was covered in ticks.

We had already called the vet before picking her up to get her in ASAP, knowing she was coming from rough conditions as a rescue. The vet saw her just two days after we had picked her up and Midge received all of her dewormer and first round of shots.

Our vet is a magical woman who listens. She listens with her mind and intuition. She heard us when we explained the vomiting per dry food and she asked to keep Midge for the day for observation. We agreed. Our brilliant Vet worked up labs and took X-Rays. We brought Midge home for the weekend and followed up with more X-Rays on Monday.
The X-Rays on Monday confirmed the Dr’s suspicions. Our darling Midge has
A vascular ring anomaly called PRAA.

PRAA a vascular ring anomaly that is congenital. Something went wrong when she was developing that caused her esophagus to become trapped by vessels at the base of her heart. Like a kinked garden hose. Every meal stretches out the muscles of her esophagus when it cannot fit through the stricture and eventually damages the esophagus beyond repair. Early detection and surgery is key to a good outcome. The most common reason for her vascular ring anomaly is called PRAA (persistent right aortic arch). We have included a picture to help explain it more.

She will need open chest surgery.
It will cost $7,000.

The surgery must be paid in whole upfront.

Normally, we are most comfortable being the contributors to crowd funding rather than the recipients but in this situation we must consider that we are asking for Midge, not ourselves.

Please help us save Midge.

Each day that passes brings Midge closer to the risk of aspiration along with the irreparable stretching of her esophagus which will lead to her death if surgery doesn’t happen immediately.

Midge is under constant supervision, unable to be left alone. We feed her a liquid diet 6 times a day and have to hold her upright for half an hour after each meal so that gravity helps the food travel through her kinked esophagus. Time is fleeting and she needs surgery immediately.

We’ve maxed out our credit cards paying out-of-pocket medical expenses for our child whom had a critical medical event last year. As small business owners, we also took the hardest hit yet during the pandemic at the beginning of this year when the community was riddled with Covid as was our family and clients. We’ve had a hard time keeping things afloat this first quarter due to constant cancellations caused by Covid. We just don’t have the resources to make this massive surgery happen without help.

While we knew we were taking a big commitment by rescuing Midge, we were unprepared for this expense as we had not planned for Midge to land in our laps quite literally over night. The normal anticipated costs of adopting and caring for a rescue were assumed and we’ve been able to get Midge her shots and have money saved aside for her to be spayed, the basics.
But we were not prepared for the thousands of dollars this sweet puppy will require to survive.

Midge came to us because she knows we will fight for her. MIDGE IS A FIGHTER TOO and most pups don’t live past 5-6 weeks with this condition!
We have to try to save her.

PLEASE HELP SAVE MIDGE.

Thank you for donating or sharing. Our family is so hopeful to keep this baby going!
