Girl Child Education Fundraiser Challenge

Hi everyone!

My name is Adya, I’m 13 years old and I currently live and study in the UK. I love writing, reading and helping others!

As we know, most of 2020 has been spent in lockdowns, but I’m fortunate enough to have been able to continue school online and have the bonus of loads more freetime to focus on my writing. However, I know that many children around the world were not as lucky as we are and haven’t been able to continue school through the lockdown. A year off school may not necessarily mean much to someone like me. However, for young girls living in underprivileged areas, one year off school could mean the rest of their lives being compromised. They could be forced into early marriage, or become pregnant with a child their bodies aren't ready to handle. They could experience physical and sexual abuse. They could be forced into domestic/child labour. And most importantly, they could be forced into a living a life they have no hand in.

Universal girl child education remains a challenge in poorer and developing countries, including India. In many parts, it still takes lots of convincing to persuade families to send their girl children to primary schools. Now imagine that exact situation, tricky enough as it is, with COVID-19 and lockdown layered on top. Poor families can't afford to continue school online. If they have more than one child, choosing to invest in the boy's education. Underfunded schools can't afford to buy and distribute enough technology to facilitate online school. The whole vicious cycle repeats itself and at the end of it, the girl child has to face the consequences once again.

I'm sure nothing about that scenario (a very true and familiar one for many right now) sounds fair to you.

Therefore, I’ve decided to combine two things I am very passionate about: writing and girls education. This year, I am going to be taking on a challenge to write a novella in 31 days (December 14 - January 14) to raise £6,000 to fund 5 years of education for 30 girls in India, through IIMPACT

IIMPACT's mission is to mobilize and motivate non-school going girls, between the ages of 6 and 14, from economically and socially backward rural areas of India and put them firmly on the track of literacy through quality primary education. Since 2002 it has helped educate over 100,000 girls. Today IIMPACT educates 50,000 girls in 1500 villages in 11 States of India. One of the unique things about IIMPACT is that it is one of the few organisations where 100% of the donated funds are used to support the cause- girls' education.

By supporting me in this challenge, you’ll be bringing happiness and education to many girls!

To support one girl's education for one full year costs only £40! You can choose to donate £40, 80, 120 GBP or any amount you choose. No amount is too little :)

Thank you so much for reading and helping,

Adya

P.S. When making a donation, you have the option of leaving a tip for GoFundMe. You can change the amount at your discretion - it will even accept a 0 if you choose.
