The Advancing Latinas into Leadership Mentoring Program (ALLMP) is a non-profit founded in August 2016. The purpose of ALLMP is to prepare high school Latinas for their lives after high school by providing them the tools they need to succeed academically and professionally.
Students in 9th to 12th grade are brought together during the school year for a series of workshops to provide practical advice and tips on topics such as how to write college essays, apply to college, and to research and apply for scholarships. Girls are also taught to write cover letters and resumes and to successfully build a professional network. They are then matched with a Latina mentor who meets with them regularly during the year to give advice and help them apply what they have learned to their own lives.
We create a life long sisterhood. ALLMP provides the practical knowledge necessary for Latinas to achieve their goals and be strong contributors to our community and economy. It develops Latinas who are confident and empowered, creating future leaders in our communities. We are a registered nonprofit organization with the DC and federal government (EIN 82-3909698), and donations are deductible for tax purposes.
We have had a great response from the girls who have participated over the past four years; they have really used what we taught them. One girl attends George Mason University in Virginia, another girl attends George Washington, and three girls are at the University of the District of Columbia. Other girls have attended community college in the DC area. We also have a partnership with the National Hispanic Nursing Association, and two girls have attended nursing school at Trinity University, a Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
Thanks to money raised over the past four years through Go Fund Me campaigns, our program has been able to provide some of the girls with scholarships to purchase college text books and other materials.
In order to continue to make this possible, we need YOUR SUPPORT!
Your contribution will go towards programming and book scholarships. We want to be able to provide them the resources they need to succeed.
Your contribution will fund monthly lunches, college tours, journals, materials, conferences and small stipends to purchase college text books. We would like to award each high school Latina a scholarship to buy books during her first year of college in Fall 2020.
