-As some of you may know by now, Bisi, Lee, and Maeve were the targets of unprovoked harassment and attempts of intimidation by a trump supporter who was wearing a MAGA hat on August 23rd 2019 outside of Growler's Taproom after a gig Lee was playing. Multiple videos released by the media thus far show the man provoking and harassing the group and associating it with his hat.
-After a small altercation ensued at the bar, the group decided it was in their best interests to leave, fearing for their physical safety, but the man in the MAGA hat called the cops and Bisi and Lee were arrested and thrown in jail and booked on assault charges completely based on a false and inaccurate account of the story that the man and his wife told (and they have been circulating this false recollection to the media furiously). These charges are FELONY ASSAULT CHARGES THAT CARRY FINES IN THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS AND MULTIPLE MONTHS IN PRISON.
-Since the event the man has been telling everyone and the media that Bisi and Lee senselessly attacked him for no reason and the media is eating it the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck up, as are right wing groups and journalists
-In the 3 days since the incident (before the charges were even formally announced or a trial had commenced) Bisi, Lee, and the band as a whole have received numerous threats of violence, and we expect that they will only continue or become more severe in further attempts of intimidation.
-The media is definitely either cooperating with the cops, the man, right wing groups, or both because every article we've seen about this thus far is just an article slandering Lee and Bisi and painting them as violent senseless criminals
-**We don't give a fuck of course** the case is bullshit, but the media isn't helping, and they and every other dumbass white supremacist motherfucker on the internet is working pretty fuckin' hard to fuck their lives up, so we need some help.
-We're asking for help with our legal expenses first and foremost, we don't have the money to hire a good lawyer, but we know if we get one we can effectively fight this shitstorm because it's founded mostly on lies and racism, but we may also use some of the money for things like rent and food if need because we have a feeling this is going to take up a lot of our time and will undoubtedly make it really hard for Lee and Bisi to hustle as they normally do.
-We set the goal at 20,000 because we have no idea how much the legal fees will cost, so we figured we'd start on the high end of things since this is going to be a fight, and it's a fight we can and should all be fighting together.
-please give what you can, and if you can't and realllyyyy stand for these types of issues, go volunteer your time at some organizations that are working to eradicate things like white supremacy, prisons, colonialism, etc. If ya need suggestions we'd be happy to help :)
