Addison has spent a good amount of her life in the hospital. Nearly 8 months of her 2 years has been 1.5 hours from home at one of the children’s hospitals in MN.
When I was pregnant with Addison I had a condition called Hyperemises gravidarm. The main symptom of HG is vomiting. And not just a handful of times a day but 100-150. I lost nearly 90 pounds and ended up with damage to my brain leading to symptoms very similar to MS (weakness, forgetfulness, unsteady gait, and feeling like my body is asleep) but while my issues are slowly getting better with time Addisons body is struggling to heal and grow.
They believe that the birth defects that Addison was born with were caused by poor medical care that I got while pregnant. And have called her grouping of issues vitamin k embryopathy. Most of her issues are midline defects with the bones. She has no nose bone, hearing loss because of missing bones, spinal issues, and GI issues (the gi things we are thinking is due to her spinal/brain issues and the way the bones are damaging her brain and brain stem but at this point we are not sure)
Thankfully she was blessed with a strong personality and honestly does well with everything and she LOVES life and people. So she fights harder then anyone I’ve ever known. We were told when she was a little little baby that she would most likely be very delayed and mentally not all there. But amazingly things may be a little slow in the physical side but cognitively she is not far behind at all! She says words, she answers questions, she uses ASL.
We have over the last 2 years thought about starting this page to help off set some of her medical costs and the costs of her medical treatment but we have been blessed over and over again with figure it out and having some time between one crisis and the next. But this time there was not time and resources to rebuild our savings (husband was laid off for the winter, our house flooded in the spring and is still waiting to be rebuilt in the basement and here we are back in the hospital)
Money that is raised will be used to buy food and gas while Addison is in the hospital, and anything that’s left over will go to her medical care. While most of her medical care is covered we owe a few thousand every year for her 2nd insurance. And while the insurance is a blessing and we are so thankful for the extra insurance, it adds up over time.
