Bach volleyball in Doncaster? Yes, please!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Doncaster Miners Volleyball Club, in partnership with Gold Cast Academy and Campsmount Academy, has taken on an incredible challenge to build 2 beach volleyball pitches in only 72 hours! We would absolutely love for this great cause to go as viral as possible - not only to spread and promote the sport itself, but also to highlight the endless benefits of outdoors activities in general.

We firmly believe in sport being not only about the competition, or a random way to spend your free time. For us at DMVC, it is first and foremost a way to meet new lifelong friends, socialise, exercise not only your body but brain as well, and maintain your mental well-being. It is like a therapy session for a lot of people who play regularly, and we would love to spread this across the region.

This project will have great influence on the local area and will benefit not only the Doncaster community and its young people, but also all the volleyball players and amateurs across South Yorkshire (and beyond!). The nearest beach volleyball courts at the moment are located in Bridlington and Loughborough, which means beach volleyball at present is not easily accessible for those who don’t have appropriate transport in South Yorkshire area.

Whether you are an experienced volleyball player or you’ve never heard of it, or perhaps you’ve seen it during Olympics on the TV and thought “what’s this about, then?”, or maybe you just like sport in general - - we would love everyone to get involved and help out to get this amazing opportunity to come true!

Who:

Doncaster Miners Volleyball Club (DMVC) is a charity organisation ran by and for the local volleyball lovers.

Campsmount Academy is a Doncaster based school within Leger Education Trust. It is located around 7 miles northwest of Doncaster. The school has already got great existing sports facilities, including indoors sports hall, gym, dance hall, football and tennis pitches. With the construction of the beach volleyball pitches, the school will add to their already impressive portfolio of sports offered to their students, during school time, and everyone else, outside of school hours.

Our second partner, Gold Cast Academy is a training and testing centre located in Glasgow. Their mission is to deliver the best quality plant operators training that is customised to operators and construction companies needs. 

Why:

Undoubtedly, beach volleyball is a great outdoors activity and has been gaining more and more popularity in recent years. We are extremely excited to be able to promote it and encourage everyone, especially young people, to try it and have fun with it. Anyone can play, irrespective of their age, height or level. We are also proud to be supporting a sport that according to UK statistics, is very inclusive and promotes equality and diversity (63% of registered players in the UK is from BAME background).

With the increase in the popularity comes great opportunities, such as organising tournaments and other sporting events. This is a great chance for the City of Doncaster to be put firmly on the map of sporting community. Especially that this will be the only fixed beach volleyball playing court facility in over 50 mile radius.

Where:

Campsmount academy has kindly agreed to allow the construction of the pitches on the existing grassy school grounds. All necessary efforts will be made to ensure that the project is going to be carried out swiftly and well. We are seeking necessary permits as well as seeking advice from designer and structural engineers.

How:

With help of our partners, GCA, we aim to carry out the works in astounding 72 hours. Gold Cast is providing us with their excellent knowledge and experience in excavation and landscaping. The pitches will be full-sized and up to all current standards. We are working hard on getting funding for all necessary elements and other equipment. All we need now is sand! Precisely 200 tonnes of sand (that is 400,000lb)! Which is the same as the Statue of Liberty in New York. But there’s no such thing as “impossible” for us. This is why we need your help. This is why we need YOUR grain of sand.

We hope that with the amazing local community as well as the volleyball community coming together, we will be able to collect money towards the purchase of 200 tonnes of sand required to construct two beach volleyball pitches. Every penny counts and every grain of sand does! Even a small contribution means we will be one step closer to getting Doncaster and South Yorkshire out and about and moving!
