Adam Szudarek’s Lung Transplant

Adam is 8 years old and starting the 3rd grade at Nord Middle School in Amherst, Ohio.  Adam has faced many health related challenges in his short life.  He was born with a congenital lung defect known as C-CAM and spent the first 60 days of life in the NICU at Cleveland Clinic.  At age 4 Adam was diagnosed with Wilm’s Tumor a form of kidney cancer.  He underwent Chemotherapy, Radiation and a partial nephrectomy.  Adam was also diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension during his cancer treatment.  There is no known cure for pulmonary hypertension.  The family was told that Adam would at some point need a lung transplant.  After a hypertensive crisis in April of 2018 that significantly advanced his disease, a search for a transplant center began.  In July of 2018 Adam underwent evaluation and eventually was accepted at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s lung transplant program.  Once listed, Adam and his mom will need to relocate to the Cincinnati area.  As we prepare for this next step in Adam’s treatment, we are asking for the help of family, friends, and amazing community to support them through this journey.
