Dear Abra Customers, friends, family, and the Ann Arbor community at large:
Many of you have offered and want to know how you can help, and we appreciate you so much! Asking when so many are suffering hardship right now is a difficult and humbling thing to do. But here goes:
We need your support to take care of our Abra crew, whom many of you know and love as much as we do: Natalie, Moria, Nat, Margaret, Greta, Vittoria, Anya & Courtney are all as committed to Abra as we are to them. None of us know when emergency relief is going to arrive and it will not cover our costs. Steven & I have enough saved to cover health insurance, a bit of payroll, and countless other fixed costs but with no income and no ability to generate it, these funds will be exhausted quickly and threaten our ability to continue on as a downtown business. With very high overhead, we cannot take adequate care of our most important asset-- our amazing Abra crew. They cannot do what they do remotely.
Our family of artists have devoted themselves to customers, each other, and their passion for original design through the hands-on creation and repair of beautiful things.
Abracadabra has given back to the community as a core founding principle. Our team chooses the next capital donation campaign each quarter. Our jewelry and gift cards are given weekly to local arts, and to medical, animal welfare, and social causes.
We care deeply.
Forty-six years ago, Steven arrived in Ann Arbor as a squatter at the art fair. Since then, we have grown into an amazing collective of inspiring, passionate artists who have the great joy of being able to learn and grow doing what they love every day. Now we need your help taking care of our Abra Crew family. Any money raised will be used exclusively to do just that. When we are allowed back into our shop, we will return to sharing all that is given back into the community. Our only objective is to ensure the safety and sustainability of the place we call our home away from home.
