We are a collaborative group of educators, parents, business and community members from all over the Monterey County. Our organization is devoted to improving the quality of life, sense of purpose and belonging for individuals with special needs.
Our vision is to create a community run coffee shop that caters to the special needs and "abilities" of our population to provide employment and training. Our goal is to promote interaction and acceptance of differences among all people.
Filling a Need
We have identified a lack of opportunities in the work setting and social/community atmosphere for our population. The national unemployment rate for those with disabilites is at 68% while here in the Monterey County it is 72 %. Abilities Cafe seeks to counterbalance this disparity.
Abilities Coffee shop will provide work experience, training and income for its employees while simultaneously providing a safe and enriching social space designed around the exceptional abilities culture.
