Abi’s Fight Against Synovial Sarcoma

It's no secret that one of the most difficult things to do is ask for help. Although, we hesitated so much to create this account, we are left with very few options.
How this all began...
My sister Abigail visited the doctor for a soccer physical in August of this year. As she began her 7th year in school and prepared to celebrate her 13th birthday she was extremely excited for soccer season. What should've been a simple physical quickly turned into something unexpected. As the doctor asked routine questions, a red flag was raised when my sister shared with him some discomfort that she had been experiencing for a short while. The doctor recommended that some X-Rays be taken and soon after we found ourselves in the emergency room awaiting results of a CAT Scan.
Fast Forward...
When the results came back from the CAT Scan, the doctor very quickly saw that something didn't quite add up. He recommended we make our way to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth and shared that we should act quickly.
What should have been a 3 to 4 day visit turned out to be a permanent stay. Abigail went through several rounds of testing and she was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma.
Synovial sarcoma (SS) is a rare type of cancer. It affects soft tissues, which connect, support, and surround bones and organs in your body. These may include muscle, fat, blood or lymph vessels, nerves, tendons, and the lining of your
joints.
Very few people get this disease, roughly 3 to 5 people per million.
What Abigail is experiencing...
Abigail and my mother have not been home since the first week of October and don't expect to until late February when Abigail is able to complete her 6th round of chemo if it is successful. We are currently on round 2 of treatment. Each round of chemo consists of:
Week 1:
2 types of Chemo, Monday through Wednesday which take about 4 hours to complete and Radiation Monday through Friday.
Week 2: Radiation Monday through Friday and several rounds of blood check ups to make sure her blood levels are high.
Week 3: Radiation Monday through Friday and blood Transfusions as needed to increase her levels as we prepare for the next round of chemo...
and repeat week 1.
They are currently living out of the second hotel since they've been in Fort Worth. My mom went from working a full time job at the state to now being my sister’s biggest supporter and friend as she goes through treatment.
We have been denied Medicaid and were also turned down by the Ronald McDonald house.
