Abel’s Black History Month Dream

Last year, my son Abel noticed that there was no mention of Black History Month in his elementary school but that Dr. Zeus received a whole week of activities and programs. He asked his teacher about this, who sent him to his principal, who told him to write a paper about why Black History is important to him and other kids.
After writing the paper, he was invited to present it to the PTA and request their participation and funding. They in turn put he and my wife in charge of Black History Month for the school and were able to provide about $200.00 for activities.
My wife Tyra, has petitioned for additional funds from some contributors and was able to raise $700.00 more!
Abel and Tyra have done a great job planning 4 Friday’s of activities and a daily learning opportunity. The budget requires about $2,200.00 total so all of the kids can participate and hopefully, learn the value of Black History in a fun and meaningful way.
