Attorney Abduljabar Hussien Gamada was assassinated on August 11, 2021 in Adama town of Oromia.
He was a personable, fearless and selfless Oromo Civil Rights Attorney and former Judge who was co-representing multiple, high profile, political prisoners including: Jawar Mohammed, Bekele Gerba, Hamza Borena et al.
In one of Abduljabar’s most recent cases he obtained an Oromian Supreme Court judgment ordering the release of Lidetu Ayalew, despite significant political interference from the administration of Mr. Abiy Ahmed.
On the afternoon of August 11, 2021 , devastating word spread that Abdulajabar Hussien’s body was found dead, yet another political murder victim struck down in cold blood, leaving a widow and a beautiful young daughter behind without support.
Abduljabar was simply a brilliant person, a friend, former colleague to many of us who served with him in his role as a Judicial Trainer at Oromia judicial training center prior to his embarking upon a solo practice. There he was an outspoken, trailblazing leader in favor of Criminal and Civil Court reform, bringing with him the added credibility of his experiences as a former Supreme Court Judge of Oromia.
We express our deepest most heartfelt condolences to Abduljabar’s wife (Soriya), his daughter, his extended family and loved ones.
His joyful life and innumerable contributions to Civil Rights and the cause of Oromo freedom will not soon be forgotten and shall inspire countless others who will follow in his footsteps.

Abduljabar lived and dedicated his profession to the Oromo cause. We strongly believe the Oromo people owe his widow, his daughter and dependent family a great deal.
