Abby's trip to Lira, Uganda

Hey there, I just want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. I cannot believe I am even writing this, as this has all happened so fast and it has been a dream of mine for so long. I have been blessed with the amazing opportunity to travel to and serve in Uganda, Africa this summer for two weeks in July. I will be going with an incredible organization called Saving Grace, which rescues street kids by providing them with shelter, education, medical care, and of course lots of love and a hope for a better future. I will be staying at “Uncle Fred’s House” which is home to about 35 former street kids. Fred was a former street kid, himself, and alongside Saving Grace, helps these kiddos return to their own villages and improve their quality of life, impacting Uganda as a whole. Saving Grace is part of igniting a light in these kids that will lead to big changes for the country.

This is going to be a hard trip, often times with no running water, toilets like we are used to, or electricity. I am so beyond eager to be fully immersed in their culture and step away from the life that is so familiar to us over here in the states. I cannot wait to be a part of all that God is doing in these kids’ lives, and to be part of life-changing experiences for them and their families. I know that these kids’ lives are being greatly impacted, but I know that I am going to come back so impacted as well. Stepping away from my safe and familiar life, I know that I am going to grow so much and be forever changed.

I seriously crave to live a life so outside of my comfort zone, serving others and sharing the love that people are longing to know. I cannot wait to go and be a part of all that God is doing in these kiddos’ lives, and also experience Him in a way that I have never before. It would seriously mean so much to me if you would take time to say some prayers for me and the group I will be going with (as well as the kids over there). This has all been happening crazy fast and I am going to be purchasing my flight tickets this week. I cannot even begin to say how grateful I would be for any kind of support.

I cannot wait to share this amazing experience with everyone and tell you about all the amazing things that God is doing over in Uganda!
