Autism Training in Honduras

The Honduran Autism Population is struggling!
Autism is real in underdeveloped countries. Sadly therapies, resources, and information are minimal or non existent.

With the help of a mother of a child with autism who was born in Honduras we were given the opportunity to provide much needed resources. On June 10, 2017 we were given the opportunity to educate and train families and teachers of children with autism in Honduras via a Webinar. In the first 24 hours of this event being advertised, over 40 people signed up and all seats were taken. Individuals were willing to up their time to spend a few hours to learn more about autism and how to help the children affected by this diagnosis. This quickly became a realization to me that there was a whole country of people who did not have the resources we are so blessed to have in the United States. After that training, our wheels started spinning on how we could create a team of professionals who could travel to Honduras and provide more training to a larger group of people and provide training by being the “boots on the ground” for these families. Even if it were for just a few days. It was at that point I reached out to a friend and colleague, Jessica Zuniga, to see if she would be interested in going as well. I knew her expertise and professionalism would be a great resource to share as well. She agreed whole-heartedly and then it became a matter of when we would be going.

After a few early planning stages we determined the best option would be to go for a long weekend and provide another training to a larger group of people and then to plan a longer trip later in the future where we could go and spend a longer period of time, possibly, 7-10 days providing individual consultation sessions to the families.

At this time we are working hard to raise the money for our initial long weekend trip over Labor Day Weekend. All of the money raised will go towards our travel expenses, and any additional money will be spent to purchase materials and supports that may be helpful to the children.

I am blessed and honored that The Lord has presented us with the opportunity to serve a population of individuals who may not otherwise have access to this type of support. I pray we are able to be His Hands and Feet and serve and bring Glory to Him during this trip.
