Please Help Save Balto! Urgent!

My daughter is in Fresno with our two dogs, and has been staying with family there. Our boys are both rescued dogs, and have been together for quite a long time now.
Last night, they somehow got out of the yard, and took off on a little adventure.
They wandered for about half a mile, when Balto was hit by a car, and left to die on the side of the road.
The driver did not stop - A passerby called animal control to pick him up; they dropped him off at a 24 hr veterinary clinic.
Our Balto is a 4 1/2 year old Alaskan Malamute, and is the most loving and loyal dog we've ever had; he wants nothing more than to be the family dog, and maybe go on a car ride every now and again.
Sadly, our family has recently experienced very serious financial hardship, and are facing an unexpected and very expensive surgery to save the life of our puppyboy.
His left hip is completely shattered, and an orthopedic specialist is needed to reconstruct it.
The estimated cost to perform this procedure is $5,000.00 +. Due to our unfortunate situation, we just do not have this, and cannot collet it anytime soon.
Balto is so very much a part of our family, we cannot face the thought of losing him. He is as much our kid as of our children, and a central part of our family.
We are all more than entirely willing to starve ourselves in order save his life, but alone, we can do nothing for him.
I am hoping, praying, and begging that there are enough Angels out there that will help us, so that we can help him.
