Opie's Medical Expenses

Hello!
This page is for my one-eyed cat companion, Opie.

Two weeks ago Opie was diagnosed with diabetes and shortly thereafter found to be ketotic, a life threatening condition in which her body had begun to dissolve its own muscle and fat tissues in an attempt to nourish her energy starved, diabetic cells. At the animal ER an ultrasound revealed that, in addition to ketoacidosis due to diabetes, she had an infection in her kidneys. After three days of treatment in the hospital Opie was stable enough to come home and continue treatment there. Her treatment consists of an insulin shot twice a day, prescription catfood, a daily test for her glucose and ketone levels, and (for now) an antibiotic, an appetite stimulant, and subcutaneous fluids given daily.

The daily care, hospital stay, and continuing complications that arise as we work to get her diabetes under control are, all together, proving to be more than I can handle financially, so I am asking for help.

The emergency care she received while in the hospital cost $2,456 (which I am paying off via care credit) and I have already spent $800 on other diabetes related vet bills and medication. Any donations or shares of this page are greatly appreciated. I love this cat who has already been through so much and, beyond paying off her hospital bill, I would like to be able to address future issues as they arise.
