Medical Expenses for Samantha

I would like you to meet one of the sweetest, smartest, and most sassy 7 year old little girls. I feel fortunate to have come to know Samantha and her family. Samantha was born with one of the most difficult kinds of Spina Bifida called Terminal Myelocystocele. Samantha navigates the world with a wheelchair and a can do attitude…this kid doesn’t know the word can’t…she wants to do everything herself and never ceases to amaze with her ability to meet her goals. As you can imagine, having a child with a major birth defect, can take its toll on a family, and the family finances. Her family has recently had a change in medical coverage…unfortunately their new coverage comes with a high out of pocket cost first and large copays for things like MRI’s, Ultrasounds, and CT scans, all which have become routine for a child with Samantha's condition.

As a friend of this family, I know that right now they are struggling to meet their most basic needs, not to mention the past and new medical costs they are now facing. Samantha’s immediate need is for new Bi-Lateral AFO’s (molded shoes that keep her feet from turning since she doesn’t walk). These shoes cost $1500. Samantha’s family also has over $4000 in medical bills they are trying to pay to their previous insurance carrier, while incurring over $1800 more in new bills from their new insurance. We would like to raise at least $5000 dollars to help this wonderful little girl and her parents with their medical bills and new shoes.
