Jackie Balliot's Medical Expenses

Hi everyone! My name is Jackie Balliot and I am a sophomore nursing major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  As many of you know, four years ago I battled osteosarcoma (bone cancer). I was treated at Duke University Hosptial, and this treatment included 9 months of intense chemotherapy and four surgeries, one of them being a major leg surgery to remove the tumor and insert a metal rod into my femur to salvage the limb. I am so lucky to have survived this disease and I continue to have clean scans during each of my follow up appointments. 

Cancer is expensive, even four years later. (I know-- it's so not fair.) Each time I recieve a scan or see a doctor to follow up, we rack up hundred of dollars in medical bills. I started this campaign in hopes of offsetting the costs and the stress that these bills have cause my family and I, especially now that I am in college. I was recently accepted into the UNC School of Nursing. I plan to focus on pediatric oncology and eventually go to graduate school to become a nurse practitioner and provide hope to children who will face the same monster of a disease that I faced. Unfourtunately, nursing school is substantially more expensive than the regular undergraduate college of arts and sciences. My family and I would like to be able to transition into making this investment in my future without having medical bills from my treatments and follow up scans looming over us as well. All of the money raised on this page will go directly to my medical bills. We completely understand that not everyone will be able to donate, and we thank you even if you are just checking out this page.
