A Year of Therapy, Stability, and Healing

I’m dedicated to the process of healing.
My birthday wish this year is to have a stable year of healing and nurture. I am trying to raise money to fund a years worth of therapy and housing expenses for myself. (This fund will be extended to my family as well.) I am a 26 year old black woman living in Los Angeles, CA and it’s difficult living a balanced life when there are so many systems in place to keep me down. I am determined to fully pursue my writing (poetry, short stories) creative direction, and acting. I work many jobs to make ends meet and in that process I lose valuable time and energy for myself and the creative practices mentioned above. If I am able to have the security of housing and therapy for a year and get to wholly focus on healing myself and creating meaningful work it would be the greatest gift I’ve ever received. I know if I could dedicate myself full time to my art practices I’d be able to generate enough work to live off of moving forward. I am optimistic and have many plans but I am also realistic in knowing that I am pushing against systems of socio economic oppression, misogynoir and colorism.
I've tried applying to many COVID relief grants but since March have only received a $500 grant. I am in need of mutual aid. Other than basic living expenses such as rent + utilities, I am also in need of a new laptop so I can work, and car repairs.
This go fund me is for many things but overall dedicated to my healing and while part of that therapy is my creative work, I deeply respect the professional space and think everyone should have access to a therapist. I have been in a flux state of mourning from familial loss, community loss, and the uncertainty of my life post COVID. I feel it’s imperative that I make the decision to get professional guidance. This is something that is vital for me to thrive in life.
I feel confident in what I have to offer to this world but it is discouraging trying to win in a world that is built on the oppression of black voices--specifically dark skinned women.
To thank you for your donation, I will be releasing a collection of poetry + visuals that I will send out to everyone that donates to this Gofundme. You all are a part of this journey now and so I want to share this process of healing and creativity. I am excited to create this piece of heart and soul to share with you all as a token of my gratitude.
