A Wheelchair: Her Dream Come True!

Our friend Lisa has had cerebral palsy from birth.  Now in her fifties, her mobility has declined and her needs are greater.  The power wheelchair that she has is unreliable, cannot be repaired, and does not have the features appropriate to her current situation.  Because she is unable to work, her income is very limited. Insurance will not cover the cost of a new wheelchair, so the needed funds must come from elsewhere. Without a new wheelchair, she will be essentially bedridden.

One of her lifelong dreams has been to be independent.  The difficulty of employing dependable aides has greatly increased.  Without a more advanced, customized power wheelchair, the simplest actions are extremely challenging or impossible- getting in and out of bed, bathing, going to the bathroom, preparing food, and moving about her apartment.  Away from home, she needs the confidence of a wheelchair that is safe and sturdy, and will not break down, leaving her stranded.

A new chair will give her much more mobility, and help her to realize three dreams: to regain her independence,  to find employment, and to go to college.
