A van for Cherry Pie - American Dessert Pies
As a young girl growing up in Detroit USA, Tarius loved nothing more than to help bake pies with her Mom and Aunt Paulette. These recipes handed down from Grandma Pauline, have been a part of the family ever since and today, Tarius continues to make the Cherry, Apple and Pumpkin pies she grew up with for her own children – using the same recipes.
After years of baking pies not just for her family, but for community groups and school events, Tarius decided to expand her love of baking pie, into a business!
And so Cherry Pie – American Dessert Pies was born. But these plans were abruptly halted when COVID -19 took a lot of people out of work including Tarius and her husband.
During this time, Tarius researched everything she needed to do, to be ready for when she was back on her feet and in April 2021 Cherry Pie began trading at the Williamstown Farmers market in Victoria, Australia.
The pies were an instant hit. North Americans homesick for Mom’s or in this case Grandma’s, Apple or Pumpkin Pie are loving Cherry Pie. It’s an exciting time. Having invested their savings into pie making equipment and the rental of professional kitchens, Tarius and her husband have had to rely heavily on friends for transport. Now, she needs a professional van to transport her pies to markets outside her local area.
A second-hand van will cost about $30,000. To all the expats who miss American style pies and to all Aussies who love pie (with homemade organic produce sourced from local farmers or from Tarius’ own garden) and to those who have already sampled the delicious Cherry Pie desserts in the last four months, a $10 donation by 3000 people will help Tarius reach her goal of owning a van. All donations of $25 or more receive a $5 voucher towards the purchase of a Family Sized pie. Donations of $200 or more get a pie of the month named after them.
