A Tractor for Blue Moon Sanctuary

Blue Moon Sanctuary provides care and a home to over 100 equine (horses and donkeys) rescued from the slaughter pipeline. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit that recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, we are completely donation-funded and volunteer-run. Our monthly costs for feed and hay alone run between $5,000-6,000, so we rarely have extra funds available.

Since moving to our 30-acre property in 2017, we have been desperately in need of a tractor. Why does an animal rescue need a tractor? The short answer is that having a tractor will save money, help our land, and, most importantly, allow us to improve our animal care while also making things easier for our volunteers.

Without a tractor, we have either had to pay someone or rely on the kindness of neighbors to bury deceased animals, move hay bales, do dirt work, etc. We cannot currently stockpile hay bales for winter because we have no way to move them around the property. Our pastures desperately need to be mowed so that we can plant new grass and improve them. The topography of our land makes erosion a real problem, and we very much need to do some dirt work to alleviate our current issues. Sadly, because we take in many older or sick horses and donkeys, we not infrequently need to dig deep holes to bury our animals who pass on.

Tractors, new or used, are very expensive, so this is one of those things that has been at the top of our wish list for a long time, but it is has been impossible to set aside funds for one.

HOWEVER, we now have an amazing opportunity to buy a tractor and attachments for $15,000. It has been well cared for and is actually worth at least $20,000, but the seller has very generously offered us a 25% discount. The catch is that we have to raise the $15k by December 10, as the property where the tractor is located is being sold.

This is an opportunity we could not walk away from - we know and trust the seller very much and this tractor, with its attachments, is exactly what we need. So we need to raise $15k in three weeks!
