A therapy dog for Maria

Maria is a beautiful 12 year old child with lots of challenges. She has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, glaucoma, cataracts, and epilepsy. She needs a dog who will be by her side to help her remain calm as well as comfort her should she have an attack. Maria gets very agitated and lacks impulse control. Her doctor feels a large, calm dog such as a Golden Retriever would help her a great deal.
My mother arrived in Honduras in 2000 to help the parish of Nuestra Senora de Las Mercedes. In 2004 she founded Hogar Suyapa, a children's home. Maria was born in March 2005 and entered the orphanage when she was 3 weeks old. Her first year was very difficult and she failed to thrive. At the urging of the Family Court Judge and the doctors caring for her, Maria was placed in our family as a permanent foster child so she would have a better environment, given her fragile health.
My mother is now retired and only has a small Social Security income so we are asking for the help and support of all of you to cover the cost of purchasing this therapy dog and cover the expenses for the first year (vet, food, crate and other expenses)
