A thank you gift in memory of Mum, Ann Walls x

In celebration of my 50th Birthday I'm hoping to raise money, in place of receiving gifts, to benefit East Kilbride & District Dementia Carers Group in memory of my Mum, Ann who sadly passed away due to Covid-19 in April 2020.

The charity were literally a lifeline to Mum after my Dad passed away in 2008 and also to my young family at the time children aged 1, 2 and 8yrs old. Caring for mum who had developed vascular dementia following a heart attack in 1996 was a privilege and a promise I made to my Dad, albeit emotionally and physically demanding a lot of the time, EK Dementia Carers brought happiness, joy, love and understanding to our family and were my rock in coping with my emotions, appointments,

hospital visits and even warm soup, chats and magazines brought to her door when I couldn’t reach her due to holidays, illness or weather etc.

The Group (affectionately known as “Pine” due to it’s address in Greenhills) was formed in 1990, by carers, to provide care and support to people living with dementia, family carers, and the local community.

Uniquely they have their own fully accessible mini-bus and go on over 300 trips and outings each year. My mum enjoyed this and shopping experiences the most…and of course bingo, crosswords, movie days, knitting, art, fish suppers at the beach, coffee mornings, afternoon tea but above to smile, laugh and cared for with such compassion and understanding brought about by her illness.
