A Summit to Save Lives

On January 30, our team, Priscilla, Brandon, Irena, Corrine, Dave and Michelle will attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in a fundraising effort to bring solar light and clean burning stoves to the Maasai families living in Mairowa,Tanzania.
This goal became clear when, in July, a team of four teachers traveled to Tanzania to assess educational needs for the students attending Mairowa Integrity School.
They noticed that children were frequently coughing at school. During home visits to bring families food, they observed how families burn cooking fires in the homes which are small 10‘ x 8‘ smoke filled, dark, mud huts with no windows and only a small low entry space covered with cloth to serve as a door. Many people in this community develop diseases from smoke inhalation, and young children often suffer burns from falling into the fires that continually burn on the ground inside their home. Some of the children walk as far as five miles to school and can not do homework because it is dark by the time they return home.
