A Special Memorial for Darren

Donation protected
My dear brother, Darren Reinhardt, was an incredibly special person who was remarkable in so many ways. He lived his life to the fullest and touched the lives of so many people during his time here on Earth. Darren made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew him, whether they knew him for 20 minutes or 20 years. As most people reading this will agree, my brother was not average – in any way. Those of you who knew him well, knew that he was extremely loyal, loving, hard-working, and funny – with a smile and laugh that lit up every room.  Darren knew no strangers and loved those who made him who he was. He had one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen crammed into a person. Because of that, he so often gave of himself, whether it was his smile, his time, his strength, his knowledge, or just hugs – big hugs. Darren gave us all so much, and we all are already longing for the incredible relationship that has now ended. There is a vast, unfillable hole in our lives left by his passing. Darren was so very, very loved. He made us laugh. He was with us through many parts of our lives, both good times and bad ones. He was caring, ambitious, generous, loyal, empathetic, outgoing, charming, supportive, goofy, huggable, strong, determined…the list goes on.

What's happened is so incredibly unfair and so sudden that it seems completely senseless. Darren's painful struggle is finally over and he has finally found the peace he sought with such effort in life.  And while we can never know for sure the reasons that led to this terrible tragedy, we can certainly honor and remember the wonderful person our "Big D" was! And that brings me to WHY I created this, and the request I would like to ask of every person reading this: Will you please help me (and all of Darren's family & friends) make it possible for there to be a Special Memorial (a special Park Bench and Tree) for our Dear Darren?

As most of you know, Darren loved Cherokee Park and every opportunity to enjoy time outside - whether he was riding his bike, taking his dog Nala for a walk, playing a game, or just enjoying time with those he loved. Darren was frequently at Cherokee Park, and the picture on this page was actually taken of him in front of Hogan Fountain in Cherokee Park.

Thank you for considering making a contribution toward the special Memorial Park Bench and Planted Tree. These symbols will provide a special memorial to Darren that we can all visit, and my hope and goal is that we will forever have these special spots at Cherokee Park to celebrate and remember the incredible person Darren was. I believe doing this will make Darren smile from Heaven, especially as he sees each of us visit these spots for years to come. Darren may no longer be with us here on Earth, but stories of him and his spirit will be with us forever.

Thanks for your consideration! Please share this link with anyone who might be interested in helping.

(Notes: On 10/4/2018, I visited Cherokee Park to see the status of the construction that is going on near Hogan Fountain/Bonnycastle Hill. Right off the "Scenic Loop", they are adding a beautiful new walking path, pavilion, basketball court, multi-use field, parking, and new connections to hiking trails - all in addition to the existing "teepee", playground, spraypad, swings, and restrooms. I believe this updated, open space will be a perfect setting for the Memorial Park Bench and Tree, which would be located along the Walking Path. I envision celebrating Darren's life with family & friends in this special area - in Darren's favorite park. While I believe we will always remember and celebrate Darren's life, these special symbols will forever be there for us when we want to spend some time enjoying the beautiful outdoors and reflecting on the many memories we will cherish forever from Darren's time on Earth.
Donations may also be mailed to Lindy Lamkin; please email [email redacted] to obtain my mailing address.
Any donations received above the expenses for the Park Bench & Tree costs will go toward expenses related to continuing to care for Nala, who is now a part of my family.)
