A Nickel Counts

Donation protected
The morning of October 12th at about 9:50am my sister Amber received a phone call from her husband Brad telling her that he was in trouble and that he fell from his tree stand and he couldn't feel his legs. He fell 15 to 20 feet from his tree stand and he was using his harness climbing up just hadn't latched it at that point yet when he lost his balance and fell.

At that moment Amber knew he needed to conserve his battery to reach his friend he was hunting with. She got up their son Silas and got him dressed and herself dressed all the while making phone calls left and right.

Her friend Keri came and got Silas without hesitation. Keri called her husband Keith who was hunting with Junior in another woods to go to Brad and help in anyway and just be there. Keith got a hold of Corey and told him to call 911 which Amber couldn't do since she didn't know the exact address.

Corey who Brad was hunting with got a hold of Amber and told her that he was with Brad and that Brad was alert and speaking. The ambulance reached Brad, got him out of the woods safely and he was lifelined to Methodist Hospital.

Once there he had a CT scan, echocardiogram, ekg, and chest xrays. They came and told Amber and a group of our family what was going on. Brad had multiple rib fractures on both sides, the right being the worst, his lungs were punctured and bruised from the rib fractures and the fall caused fluid buildup of blood around his lungs, as well as multiple spinal fractures and injury to his spinal column.

Consents had been signed by the multitudes and Amber spoke to over 30 people that day. Brad was taken back at 2:45pm to prep for surgery on his spine. They came out at about 6pm to provide an update on his condition.

He had screws placed on T4 T5 T6, T7 is shattered beyond repair, screws placed on T8 T9 and T10 with rods running parallel to the screws for stabilization.

This is a long road to recovery with the surgeons only giving Brad 5% chance of him walking again.

A nickel is worth more than nothing. So we are going to keep our hearts and minds on progress and knowing that Brad can keep collecting nickels along the way until he is fully recovered!

We are a bunch of crazy positive people and Brad is strong, persistent, passionate and a fighter.

Thank you to all those who have reached out to our family. Thank you to all our family and friends for coming together to surround Brad and Amber in good cheer, positive thoughts and prayers.

Thank you to Brad's medical team for the tremendous work to provide him care.

Brad is awake and in good spirits and while he cannot walk right now we believe that every nickel counts, so 5% is only a starting point to build from for his long road to recovery.

We are asking for help for Amber to be able to travel back and forth from her home to care for Silas and all his special needs and his care (HLHS - he was born with only half a heart and is doing very well currently) as well as keep her working (they are a two income family so this will add some pressure on their family) and taking care of her husband Brad while he is in the hospital and further in rehabilitation and physical therapy.

If you can provide any donation to assist with gas money at the very least while we start learning alongside Brad how to help him in his recovery and what kind of medical costs will come from this accident.

We appreciate the support.
