A new roof for Rashi Gempil Ling
Tax deductible
This is for the many students who over the years have come together at Rashi Gempil Ling, and who have benefitted from the wisdom of our kind lama, Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tharchin; also for the students of Geshe Michael Roach, who spent more than 25 years living and serving here; and for anyone who feels close to our lamas and the lineage that was so painstakingly and lovingly passed on in this temple.
This is what they told us about the situation: "After many years, the roofs of our temple, as well as the main house and the prayer wheel house, badly need to be replaced, and we are trying to raise the funds to pay for the work. With winter coming, this work becomes even more important, and we are worried that the holy objects in the temple, the prayer wheel, and the living place of our holy teachers will be damaged when the weather gets worse.
"Based on our understanding of the situation, all roof shingles need to be replaced and some damaged plywood might need to be replaced as well (which would cost an additional $100 per plywood if so).
"The cost for the job and materials from two contractors is estimated to be between $17,000 and $23,000 for the church, the main house behind the church, and the prayer wheel house. On top of all that, the gutters should be replaced and that cost is estimated at $2,000, so the total that we would need is about $19,000 to $20,000."
In recent years, the congregation has dwindled, and it has been difficult to raise the money even to cover necessary upkeep and utility bills. In order to compensate for the cost of processing donations, we are setting a fundraising goal of $25,000, and any donations we receive in excess of what we need for the roof will be used for other necessary repairs and for the upkeep of the premises.
We welcome all our old friends to help out, and we appreciate anything that you might be able to do to help us pay for this project as we do not have additional funds like this available since we are already struggling to pay for the nonstop upkeep of all houses on the property including all utilities.
