Liver Transplant for Nathan

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

We hope this message finds you well. As you may or may not know, Nathan is in need of a life-saving liver transplant. His family is in need of financial support, and we are coming to you, our wonderful village of friends and family, to ask for help. This is a difficult time and we are so grateful to have such love and support around us.

NATHAN
Nathan is an amazing teacher, father, musician, friend! He lives in Las Vegas where he works as a high school band director. He is the father to three beautiful, young children, and has a superwoman of a wife who has helped him navigate the transplant process. He is an active performer and trombonist around Vegas and the Pacific Northwest.

MEDICAL HISTORY
Nathan was born with a rare, autoimmune liver disease (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis) and doctors told him he would need a liver transplant around age 18.  18 came and went ... 25 ... 30 ... and we started to think maybe he had been misdiagnosed. For the last few years, Nathan endured batteries of medical tests as he pursued a possible re-diagnosis, and the family went through an emotional roller coaster of hope and despair. In the end, after seeing some of the best liver specialists in San Francisco (and paying extra for travel and out of network expenses) it was determined that Nathan did in fact have the originally diagnosed rare liver disease and would need a liver transplant.

PROGNOSIS
Nathan's prognosis is good. The doctors say that he is exactly the patient a liver transplant is for: he's young, he acquired this from no fault of his own, his other systems are healthy, and the new liver will not have this rare liver disease...so he will essentially be "cured" when he has a new liver working well in his body. We are feeling very positive and hopeful!

HOW YOU CAN HELP - some options

1. Share this call for help. Share it wide, share it often.
2. Donate. Anything helps!
3. Sign up as a life-saving organ donor.

CONSIDERATIONS
-----Nathan has to relocate for the surgery: Las Vegas does not perform liver transplants. He has just relocated to New Orleans where he will await surgery and spend several months in recovery there.
-----Nathan has limited sick days that will not cover the entirety of this adventure.
-----Time is of the essence: Nathan needs the surgery as soon as possible. The longer we wait, the sicker he feels, and the higher the risk of cancer and other complications.
-----Anything helps.  Even a small offering is a huge help to Nathan and his family.

Nathan has chosen an excellent hospital in New Orleans for the surgery, because it best meets these considerations above.

BREAKDOWN OF EXPENSES
This is what your generous donations will go toward:

--Travel expenses for the family to/from New Orleans
--Rental Housing in New Orleans prior to the surgery
--Hospital-Affiliated Housing in New Orleans for 3 months recovery after the surgery
--Assistance with Nathan's loss of salary for 3+ months during disability (food, essentials)
--Assistance with mortgage expense in Las Vegas for 3+ months of vacancy
--The expensive expensive expensive liver transplant surgery itself (because public school teacher health insurance)

Nathan and Liz are emotionally overwhelmed and humbled, both by their health-related hopes and fears, and by the love and support they are receiving from our circle. They will be focusing on their family and getting through this difficult time. I will keep you updated as we go. Thank you again for your love, your prayers, your life-saving gifts.
