A new Leg for Chris Schaefer
Donation protected
My friend Chris Schaefer is a Homicide Investigator for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Chris has had major knee problems for over 15 years. He has had several surgeries (we count 20), five being total replacements. Each time the knee would feel okay, but would progressively get worse and need replaced, sometimes within the same year. After the last replacement his knee became swollen, red and extemely hot. After a fluid sample was taken it was determined that an infection was present and an above the knee amputation was needed. Since then Chris has fought one thing after another. He has had a bruised femur bone, nerve damage and been to Dallas for an 8 week rehab to mentally and physically build his body up. Unfortunately, this is not the end of the fight for Chris. Recently he learned he needs a new leg and United Health Care has denied it ... even after numerous appeals by him, his surgeon, his psychiatrist and a US Senator. He even applied for grants to cover it. He has exhausted all options to get him back in the field as an active homicide investigator. Chris loves his job and we are lucky we have people like Chris who serve our community. Let's show our support for Chris and law enforcement by raising the necessary funds to get Chris back on his two feet.
