A MASSAGE CHAIR FOR MAKENZIE

On June 20, 2017, 12-year old Makenzie Barchiesi suffered a stroke which left her right side paralyzed and her speech impacted.  She was life flighted to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Upon being discharged from Children’s, she was moved to Children's Hospital Rehabilitation Unit.  The decision was made to bring Makenzie home to familiar surroundings and receive physical and occupational therapy through Children’s Rehab in Bridgeville.  Makenzie is making steady progress; her speech has returned, she is able to walk and is beginning to have use of her right arm.  In the near future, Makenzie will be fitted for leg and arm braces.

On July 8th, Makenzie and her family stopped at Pool City where Makenzie tried out a full body massage chair.  Before she got in the chair Makenzie couldn't use her knee, elbow or extend the fingers on her right side. When Makenzie got out of that chair she was like a new person. She even held the door for everyone with her right hand.  The only drawback to the chair for Makenzie is its cost: $3,494.82. 

Makenzie is an incredible child; she is bright, determined and a friend to everyone. Although she has a long road of rehab ahead of her she is upbeat and remains positive.
