It’s time to buy a new liver to keep our most beloved friend alive - Rae "Dawn" Pruit.
Just recently, Dawn went to the doctor for a nagging cough and slightly swollen feet and left the appointment in shock and with prescriptions for heavy antibiotics. “We don’t know the cause,” they said, “but your liver is shutting down.” Once admitted to the hospital and after a myriad of test and a liver biopsy, our fears were confirmed. Dawn is now being transferred to the Mayo Clinic and will be placed on the list for a liver transplant. The cause - viral, bacterial, environmental or autoimmune - we still don’t know. What we do know, is that she needs a new liver. Quite frankly, she needs a liver to live.
In only a few short weeks, Dawn and her husband Mike (pictured above), went from starting a new life in Arizona after moving from Portland, Oregon, to fighting for Dawn’s life. They now find themselves in a new community with insurance barely covering expenses.
Please help Dawn and Mike by giving what you can. Dawn and Mike have direct access to all funds raised on this platform and they need money to help with:
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance - and that could alone add up to the many thousands.
- Food and lodging for Mike as they transfer to the Mayo Clinic for who knows how long.
- Rehab expenses once Dawn has her new liver (because yes, she will get one).
Dawn is one of the most driven and caring people alive and it us up to us to give her more years of laughter, love and friendship. With both of her parents gone - she really only has us. She is only 39 and I know that many of you and myself, can’t imagine a day without her.
