Help! A Little Boy's Best Friend

Donation protected

Blaze has had an eventful life in just 5 years. He went from being given away by his original owner, to losing his 2nd owner to an over dose and being abandoned outside for days left to fend for himself at just 6 months, to being rescued by us when he came up and jumped into our car and now...

This past Saturday Blaze was left outside by our well meaning grandmother. We have a fence but at some point Blaze was traumatized by something or someone. We found his tail limp and his buttocks very swollen. At the emergency vet it was found his tail was ripped from his spine. The vet is advising the tail is a loss that there is not enough bone to reattach as there is literally no bone between his spine and tail bone now and it will need to be removed. They are also very concerned about his anal tone. The nerves that control muscles for his rectum are very damaged and they can't predict how badly it really is because of all the swelling. At this time they are unsure if he will regain the tone again to hold in his poo or to be able to poo on his own. If he does not he will have to have diapers to help keep control of his incontinence and possibly need manual help to go. Because of the very sensitive nerves that control the bowels where the tail is they recommend a specialist remove the tail and look at his nerves to see if there is any therapy to stimulate healing or growth to regain that muscle tone. They are talking about trying to get him in to see one within this week. Hopefully we will find out more but all these visits which has only been two so far have already cost over $1000.

Our dog means a lot to us (he's family) but especially to our 4yo. who was born 2 weeks after we took him in. They have grown up together and I so dearly want to see this dog make a grand recovery but we are in a complete financial bind as a family right now. I am currently pregnant and my significant other just lost his job and we are taking care of my grandmother. We have only one income right now and the cost of the specialist is said to be in the thousands as well as the possibility of more cost for any therapy and supplies and medicines. We really need the help to pay for the initial surgery and any possible therapy, diapers and medicine for the dog. I just can't imagine giving up on him and giving him away or even contemplate euthanasia for a healthy dog that is injured and only 5 years old. My son would be devastated as would we to even do such a thing. We want to make him strong again and the vet strongly believes a car rolled over him and is amazed that with the amount of trauma on his buttocks/rectum, tail and spine that he can walk because no other bones were broken and that no other organs were harmed.

Please help us save our dog from further pain as much as we can by giving/donating  whatever you can to fund him getting a good surgery and recovery treatment. We would be so very grateful and blessed in this uncertain time of waiting. My son would be so happy to play with HIS Blaze again. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and share this with your family and friends and for any donations whatever the amount.
