On Friday March 2nd 2018 a disaster struck my community in the form of a menacing Nor’easter. When flood waters began to enter my sister’s home, she raced to the crib of her 16 month old daughter, calmly woke her and brought her to the second floor loft, where they would be safe until rescue arrived. My brother-in-law was unable to reach them in time. The one and only road in and out of Hough’s Neck was officially impassable. For those who were at home that Friday morning, they were now trapped with no electricity and two more high tide cycles to contend with before the storm would officially be over. The salt water had risen to a point of alarm; literally, car alarms were going off as they were being submerged and live wires dangled above. When the National Guard came in well organized fashion and began their rescue mission, going from house to house with their boats, my sister and Billie, my niece, were some of the first to be rescued. Fortunately they were not injured; my sister is expecting another baby in May, and she is one of the strongest people I know. She is a survivor. The water has receded, and for the most part, the neighborhood is beginning to look normal again. However, there is now a board covering my sister’s front door. They haven’t been able to go home. The old beach bungalow needs to be rebuilt. Its no longer safe for little Billie and her unborn brother. Though they have flood insurance, it won't come close to covering the costs to make their house habitable. Please help us raise money to get Billie back in her home. They have been through a lot and need a miracle. We are asking people to donate money towards the construction costs of rebuilding their home. They are only in the beginning stages of figuring out what the costs are going to be,
