A Hero Needs Our Help (in honor of Jason Wood)

Donation protected

Charles Jason Wood was shot 4 times. This man of faith, single father to a beautiful 3-year-old little girl, friend to all who come in contact with him, is now a hero to the Colorado Springs community after successfully preventing a robbery in progress at Altitude Organics on April 15th, 2021.

The perpetrator got away and left Jason to die in a parking lot, but as Jason describes the tragedy “God just wasn’t done with me yet.”  The Colorado Springs Police Department was there on the scene in moments to help rush Jason to the Penrose Trauma Center just in time. The robber has been at large until Wednesday May 5th, 2021 when he was apprehended, arrested and is now behind bars. But while the criminal was in hiding for the last three weeks Jason has been in critical condition enduring five different life saving surgeries.

One bullet grazed his skull resulting in his need for surgery to place a permanent titanium metal plate put inside his head.  The shrapnel pieces from the bullet will also remain in both his head and neck. One bullet went through his liver, and exited out of his body. The bullet eventually caused a collapsed lung. This second surgery was needed to clean and repair his liver, along with a third surgery to repair intussusceptions.  One bullet lodged in his chest and rib cage. This bullet will remain in his chest. A fourth surgery was done to place a metal rod and bolts to stabilize his shattered femur. Finally, the fourth bullet and fifth surgery were removed from his leg to be utilized as evidence. The perpetrator used a Magnum 45 gun.

In spite of all his trauma and hardship Jason remains, hopeful, optimistic, and is still carrying his faith in the forefront of his daily interactions with those who are helping him heal.  He has reluctantly agreed to let his friends create this Go Fund Me fundraiser to help him with his daily living needs while he regains his physical and emotional strength. He has not been given a prognosis for how many months it will be before he can return to life as it once was but for those of us who know this incredible human, it will definitely be at the speed of his unwavering belief in God.

Jason has endured an incredible amount of trauma and the recovery journey will be long. Anything you can do to support Jason during his time of healing would be welcomed and appreciated. If you cannot give at this time please help by sharing his Go Fund Me page with as many people as possible, or write a testimonial on his behalf, send him a card, or show him some love through a text. Anything and everything will help him during this time of great need.

Thank you in advance for your grace and your willingness to give. “There are no strangers here, only friends we haven’t met yet”
