A Helping Hand For Rene & Michael
If you know me, odds are you know my mom & Michael, love them even. I guarantee at some point in the time you’ve known them they’ve given you a place to stay, they’ve cooked you a meal, gave you snacks, provided a shoulder to cry on when you needed it.. I guarantee they played a parental role for you if you had ever needed one. I guarantee you’ve shared a drink with them, a laugh, a smile.. I have no doubt in my mind you consider them family, everyone does after meeting them. They’re just those people. And right now they need your help. Last year in the Fall of 2021, Michael suffered a shoulder injury at work, which forced him onto disability (not by choice) and the need for surgery. Due to being (sadly considered) on the lower class spectrum, his insurance & doctors aren’t the greatest, & his surgery & therapy has been reschedule for months out longer than planned. It’s been months since his injury, & in which he had filed a claim with EDD/SDI right away. He has only received one payment within the last 4-5 months of his promised ~$1000/month to cover his rent & lost income, meaning that he has been skimped from the ~$4000 worth of payments they promised him in the first place. Recently in the month of December he received the devastating news that Disability is halting not only his, but most Disability claims & payments due to the recent rise in EDD/SDI fraud. At first they informed him it would be a week to figure out the issue, that has since been prolonged to 3 weeks+. He spends an hour+ a day on the phone trying to get through to someone, but with no luck. I’ve never heard my step-father break down the way he did today. He’s never once shown shame, embarrassment, fear.. but tonight he was vulnerable. They have fear of losing their home they’ve lived in for 12 years, a home I’m sure most of you have shared beautiful moments with them in. My mother was able to get a position with Amazon, but that doesn’t start until the final week of January, and even then her first paycheck wouldn’t be provided until mid-February. My parents need your help. All they need is 2 months worth of rent, bills, etc. Maybe even grocery money. Anything. We all know what this financial fear & pain feels like, or at least we know someone who has felt it. So this is me asking you to please donate anything you can, even if it’s just $5. Even if it’s just you sharing our link. Let’s lend a hand to the people who have broken their back to help everyone around them whenever needed. It’s our turn to carry them on ours.
