A future for Jack Perry

This page has been set up by the friends and family of Jack Perry. As you are aware, Jack is critically ill in the ICU unit at Royal Melbourne Hospital, with a complex medical condition. Funds donated will be used to support Jack with living and medical costs.

Jack was born with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. By the age of 2, he had undergone numerous medical procedures, including open heart surgery. Now 22 years old, Jack’s condition has always been closely monitored by cardiologists and until last week he was healthy and doing really well.

Last week, Jack took himself to the Emergency Department of Dandenong Hospital as he had a high temperature, body aches and extreme fatigue. He waited almost 8 hours while his mum, Renee made numerous calls to ED making them aware of his heart condition and that his symptoms were out of character and very serious. Jack was sent home after being seen by a doctor but he continued to deteriorate. Friends managed to get Jack back to the Emergency Department and after being admitted to ICU, endocarditis, a bacterial infection of the lining of the heart and valves was diagnosed.

Jack was transferred to Monash Hospital and treated with IV antibiotics. Despite being monitored by a more experienced medical team, multiple complications meant he remained seriously unwell and on Monday he was again transferred, this time to Royal Melbourne Hospital where he is now under the care of a team of Orthopedic, Medical and Cardiac specialists. Jack had numerous procedures yesterday (Wednesday 6th October), including an MRI, keyhole surgery to wash-out and remove infectious fluid from his knees and shoulder, a platelet transfusion to increase blood clotting, a trans-oesophageal echocardiogram and kidney dialysis. Today, Jack has undergone open heart surgery to repair / replace his damaged heart valves.
