A Chair For Ashleigh

Donation protected

Ashleigh is a 22 year old woman who has had a difficult life growing up, as she has Autism , Bronchial Asthma , Learning Disability , Rheumatoid Arthritis , Type 1 Diabetes , Mental Health problems/issues  and  Sleep Apnea , she has 3 other brothers who are all on the Autistic spectrum and all have other issues also. So life in the household can be stressful and very difficult being the only girl ( not including her mum ), but it got far far more difficult for Ashleigh on the 25th of April this year (2018). Ashleigh was fighting an infection  that weekend and due to this infection a large swelling appeared on her upper thigh, we (Mum and Dad) took her to the G.P.  and we where told that it was an abscess and was given antibiotics , come 25th her younger brother found her turning blue and fighting for breath, we thought it was an Asthma attack, but even after treatment (we have a Asthma Ventilator ) she was not responding, I called an ambulance.
Next thing we were in the Hospital in the relatives room being sat down by the surgeon  and getting told that our daughter was very ill and surgery was imperative , 20 Mins later she was in surgery fighting for her life as she had developed necrotizing fasciitis  in the part of the thigh that was suspected of being a Abscess.
Ashleigh had part of her upper thigh and almost half of her groin skin removed to the deep fascia leaving no protection and permanent nerve damage meaning secondary infection  is a very high risk and this became a reality all too soon after being admitted to I.C.U.  her kidney's started to fail and then went into complete renal failure,  and then she developed a chest and ear infection, Ashleigh then had to learn how to walk again. This very restricted and will be for the long term, she can walk very short distances with the aid of crutches and assistance  but most of movement will be in a wheelchair ( when she will be allowed to go out), Ashleigh was in hospital for 6 weeks and now is at home.
Even though she is at home her treatment has not ended and will not end for at least a year as this type of wound has to heal in a certain way called granulation therapy  This therapy is trying to avoid skin grafts but has little to no chance of nerve revival.
Ashleigh has a after care team consisting of Nurses , occupation therapist , carers  and physiotherapists , and all the people that was helping her in the past. The problem is she is bed ridden as we have no room to put a bed downstairs so all her visits are in her room.

We are trying to raise funds to get my daughter a bariatric rise/recline chair  so she can have a better quality of life and be with her family and also a bit more independent as well as seeing all her visitors in a better environment .

We would like to have the funds as soon as possible to help with her recovery and put an order in, as these chairs can take months to prepair as a lot of them are made to measure.

The local authority  and N.H.S.  have been brilliant in providing with equipment (wheelchair, crutches, assistance, medical equipment etc..) to help Ashliegh in her recovery but unfortunately they do not provide these chairs as they are to specialised and as I have stated made to measure.

Not only will this help Ashleigh in her recovery but it will help her be part of the family unit again and not isolated in her room and also give her the comfort to relax and try help in the pain management  even though there is no nerves in the wound itself the rest of her leg and groin have full sensation and like any trauma to your body it will and does hurt.

Like every parent and carer we try and hope we can help in the ease of our loved ones that are in pain or distress and we can just make that we bit of a difference to put a smile on the face of that person. If this happens then we know that we have achieved something huge and we can sleep better knowing we made a difference.
